Sanjay Van is a part of South-Central Ridge ,formimg a part of ancient Aravallis in Delhi with historic ruins of 12th Century. It has been notified as a reserved forest under Section 4 of the Indian Forest Act, 1927. It is adjacent to Qutub Minar and surrounded by JNU, Qutub Institutional area, Kishangarh-Vasant Kunj and Mehrauli.
It is a major lung space of Delhi and a paradise of birdwatchers and nature lovers. It has been home to native as well as rare migratory species. The efforts to restore the waterbodies of the forest will go a long way in making it a birdwatchers paradise. Enthusiasts have already reported increased sighting of rare migratory birs as well as native species.
Some ofthe processes involved includes:
conserving and re-introducing native flora, bio remediation of sewage waterand water harvesting, education of schoolchildreen and public awareness, herbal and medicinal plants growing and making of bird watcher’s paradise.
