जैव विविधता पार्क की अवधारणा

Introduction:

Biodiversity parks are unique landscapes which consist of the form of diverse communities and provide ecological, cultural & educational benefits to the urban society.

The network of Biodiversity Parks in Delhi are unique landscapes that harbour diversity of plants, animals and microbes living in ecologically sustainable biotic communities. They render multiple ecological services including carbon sequestration, recharge of ground water aquifers and educational as well as recreational benefits to the urban society. The Biodiversity Park with its rich flora and fauna are ideal instruments for promoting conservation education that ultimately will have positive impacts on environmental quality and conservation ethics.

To ensure smooth development of the Biodiversity Parks and their management, it was decided that the DDA Biodiversity Parks of Delhi will be developed in technical collaboration with the Centre for Environmental Management of Degraded Ecosystems (CEMDE), University of Delhi. This is a key decision that led to successful establishment of 7 Biodiversity Parks, first of their kind in the world, attracting global attention for replication as a model for urban environmental sustainability and resilience. The foundation stone for the Aravalli Biodiversity Park was laid by the then Deputy Prime Minister of India, Shri L. K. Advani on 21st February 2004. Shri Anil Baijal became the Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs and attended the function.
